2016 marks the fifth year since the United States Breastfeeding Committee declared August as National Breastfeeding Month (NBM): an observance dedicated to improving the nation’s health by working collaboratively to protect, promote, and support breastfeeding. Medela’s driving force as a company is to enhance mother and baby health through the life-giving benefits of breast milk, which makes NBM one of our favorite times of year, and 2016 is no exception!
Breastfeeding, pumping, donating, or otherwise, we support all moms and are with you through every stage of your feeding journey. This August, we hope to extend that support by sharing education and resources, and by encouraging our communities to get involved and help us share our message.
We’ll take any opportunity we can to give back to our amazing community of breastfeeding moms. That’s why all August we’re offering 20% off everything in our online store! (Except breast pumps, but don’t forget that most insurance plans offer a free breast pump for pregnant and new moms!)
To pay it forward, we’re also donating $5 for every purchase in our online store this month to the First Food Friendly Community Initiative, which provides breastfeeding support, education, and resources to disadvantaged communities across the U.S., giving parents what they need to give their babies the best possible start. So, make a list of the bottles, bags, pump parts, and accessories you need, and start shopping!
This collaboration with First Food Friendly is part of how Medela lives its mission and legacy of caring for moms, babies, communities, and our environment. It’s all part of the Medela Cares initiative to support low-income working moms and reduce disparities.
If you’re following us on Facebook and Instagram, get ready for a jam-packed month of breastfeeding facts, tips, and of course GIVEAWAYS! We’ll also be hosting an expert webinar and featuring blog content from our partners that cover breastfeeding disparities and how we can help close these gaps so that all babies can receive the benefits of breast milk.
We all know that mother’s milk is amazing. We hope you’ll join us this August to celebrate everything breastfeeding does for moms, babies, families, and communities.
Tell us how you’ll be celebrating in the comments below!
