Medela Recycles Ambassador Spotlight: Chelsea Day

Next stop on our Medela Recycles journey – San Diego! This month we welcomed our October Medela Recycles Ambassador, Chelsea Day, for our donation event – it’s truly an honor to be able to support new moms in this way. Hear what Chelsea has to say about Medela Recycles and why this cause is so personal to her.

We are so grateful for your support of Medela Recycles. What inspired you to join us as a Medela Recycle Ambassador?

We all want to do what’s best for our children, so this was an obvious fit. My husband and I interact with a ton of parents daily through our blog, and it’s clear that the issues that Medela Recycles addresses are things that parents are deeply concerned about. I was inspired to see Medela not only responding to these moms and dads, but also taking it to the next step by helping out the community at large.

What about Medela Recycles speaks to you?

I love that Medela Recycles addresses the needs of families while leaving the environment a better place for the next generation.

How does your role as a mother influence your work with Medela Recycles and RMHC?

My youngest son was hospitalized with a severe respiratory virus when he was seven weeks old. I relied on my Medela pump during that time to provide him with the nutrition he needed, and RMHC was hugely supportive of us. This endeavor is very personal for me.

Who is your biggest philanthropic influence, or role model, who you feel is actively changing the world for the better?

My mother-in-law. She works as a nurse in emergency room and triage settings, and it’s inspiring to see her gently respond to people in their most desperate moments.

Working with Medela as a Recycles Ambassador, what sort of legacy do you want to leave behind?

I hope to inspire others to be a force for good. Above all, I’d like to see people treat themselves and their world with kindness.

Thank you to the thousands of generous moms who have turned in their pumps to be broken down and recycled. Each pump recycled through the Medela Recycles program supports the donation of new hospital-grade breast pumps and breastfeeding supplies to Ronald McDonald House Charities.
