Breastfeeding is a unique gift that all mothers should have the opportunity to experience, and especially because breastmilk is like medicine to premature babies, it’s important to support NICU moms and ensure their pumping success. Medela Recycles April Ambassador Brianne Manz sat down with us to share how her own breastfeeding journey led to her involvement with the Medela Recycles program and how other moms can support and help each other.
We are so grateful for your support of Medela Recycles. What inspired you to join us as a Medela Recycle Ambassador?
I was so honored to join the Medela Recycles program because I wanted to create awareness that pumps can be recycled and your journey with breastfeeding can live on. Nursing your child is one of the most fulfilling and rewarding experiences as a parent. I hope that my involvement with Medela Recycles can help women with babies in the NICU by providing them with access to the Medela equipment they need to help their babies thrive.
What about Medela Recycles speaks to you?
I nursed all three of my children and I wanted to share my experience with anyone who would listen. The bond created with each child was priceless, and I never want to let those memories go. In fact, believe it or not, I miss the days of endless nursing. I hope all mothers can experience these feelings and Medela Recycles can help by providing new, hospital grade pumps to Ronald McDonald Houses for those who will truly benefit from having pumps available to help support their babies.
How does your role as a mother influence your work with Medela Recycles and RMHC?
As a mother, my top priority has always been to care for my children and teach them as they blossom from toddlers, to children and eventually into young adults. I have always made a point to remind my children how important it is to give to those in need since not everyone is as lucky as they are. Volunteering time to community activities and donating toys to various organizations have been some of the ways that they show their support.
Who is your biggest philanthropic influence, or role model, who you feel is actively changing the world for the better?
Understanding the challenges of being a mother with a career, Christy Turlington has been my long time #1 inspiration. Her work with Every Mother Counts is just magnificent, offering mothers and babies in third world countries a chance to thrive by providing simple necessities and supplies.
Working with Medela as a Recycles Ambassador, what sort of legacy do you want to leave behind?
Because I’m fortunate enough to have access to so many resources for my young children, I hope that my work will help mothers realize the importance and the fulfillment of supporting other mothers. By working together we can help one another, create big things and reap all the rewards that motherhood offers.
