Getting Creative With Breastmilk: What to do With a Surplus

Not all moms are fortunate enough to be able to build a surplus of breastmilk when pumping for their little one, but if you find yourself with an overflowing freezer or are just looking for different ways to utilize your stash, here are some ideas for how to put that liquid gold to good use:

  • First, consider donation. Breastmilk donation is one of the most powerful ways women can help other women. You may have to meet specific screening requirements, but there are many ways to help moms and babies in need – both within the US and internationally.
  • Add breastmilk to baby food for an added nutritional boost.
  • Freeze breastmilk into popsicle molds or ice cubes for an easy summer treat for little ones. “Momsicles” are also a great remedy for teething babies any time of the year.
  • If you’re feeling especially crafty, you can use breastmilk to make butter, yogurt, or cheese.

Do you have additional ideas to share for how to use breastmilk? Let us know in the comments.
